Is it true that Castro wanted to teach people to read so he could dictate over them?

A wise man once told me that Castro needed them to be able to read, so when he told them what to do in paper, they would be able to read it and do it. That's one of the most absurd things I've heard over the last few days.

Thoughts/Opinions? Lol.Is it true that Castro wanted to teach people to read so he could dictate over them?
It's indeed absurd. Prior to the Revolution, Cuba had a very high illiteracy rate, but today 99% of the population is literate--higher than in the U.S. Despite its poverty, Cuba has a large number of doctors and its infant mortality rate is lower than in the US. For Cuba, as in the rest of the world, learning to read has been a key to progress. Is it true that Castro wanted to teach people to read so he could dictate over them?
Indeed, it is absurd. Are you sure that ';wise'; man did not have any bias against Communism, Cuba, Fidel Castro, and Socialism?

Like most people here who judge and condemn the Cuban revolution and its achievements, they know nothing of Cuba prior to Fidel Castro. Did Fulgencio Batista and his government keep the people of Cuba illiterate so he would be able to dictate over them?

I have nothing but admiration for Fidel Castro. He took a country that was on its knees and worked until it could hold its head high.
Possible.
