Honestly, I've read all the anti-mormon propaganda and had talked to ex-mormons and anti-mormons alike, and I never heard such a thing.
They do have sacred ceremonies in the temples, but none where this is done.
This may be done in the churches and groups that split from our church, like the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. In their church they have several cruel practices and ceremonies (such as blood atonement for members). Is it true that in the mormon temples they cut a sliver in the mens backs to draw out blood?
No, no...
But heres the controversial parts.
But pre 1990 there were death oaths you made.
Officiator in the Temple Ceremony would still demonstrate these instructions prior to the taking of the oath which must be followed by each temple patron:
';The execution of the penalty is represented by placing the thumb under the !eft ear, the palm of the hand down, and by drawing the thumb quickly across the throat to the right ear, and dropping the hand to the side.';
This oath as well as the representation of the penalty was completely removed April 10, 1990.
Changes in 2005...
PRE 2005 the patron was bare naked under the shield (poncho with the sides out) and touched under, (on stomach, breast, and loins) was changed to the patron wearing a one piece garment under the shield. NOW only touched on the head.
Rex,
This is ridiculous. I am a member of the Mormon church and go to the temple often. We don't do any type of weird sacrifices or rituals in them or anything like that. I can promise you that nothing like this has or will ever happen in the temple.
Temples are a holy place to worship and to renew our covenants that we make with God. It is a place where couples can be married for all eternity, and where an individual can receive blessings from the Lord and make promises to him to keep his commandments. It is a very beautiful and holy place full of peace where you can feel the spirit of the Lord.
I hope this helps you to understand a little better. I think if you get to know some Mormons you will find that they are in general very nice people who are trying to live a Christ like life. Please don't believe such silly things such as the one you mentioned above. It only hurts those who truly want to serve the Lord and love his holy house.
Well, I kind of find that funny, even if it is totally false. A seashell? Why a seashell? Why not just use a knife?
Again, this is totally off. There's nothing at all like this in the temple. We do not draw blood for any reason, and we certainly don't cut people in the first place (with seashells OR knives!) Between you and me, if the people who came up with these things could actually attend a temple session, they'd be bored to tears by how uneventful and normal everything is.
Anyway, you might want to check your sources. This is funny, but it's completely wrong.

NO, that is NOT true; and If you are serious, you need to stop listening to / beleiving ';anti-Mormon'; garbage like this! At the very least, get their beliefs and practices RIGHT!
For more accurate information on Mormons (LDS), try the following more BALANCED and TRUTHFUL resources:
1. ';Mormon America'; by Richard and Joan Ostling
Richard and Joan Ostling are estemed reporters for ';Time'; magazine, and the Associated Press; and wrote this very well reviewed, very thorough and unbiased introduction to Mormonism.
2. DAniel Ludlow, ';Encyclopedia of Mormonism'; (by former head of BYU Religion Department)
3. Leonard J Arrington and Davis Bitton - ';The Mormon Experience: A History of the Latter-day Saints (Arrington is former Church Historian and has excellent credentials as a historian)
4. Jan Shipps, ';Mormonism: The Story of a New Religious Tradition'; (Shipps is a non-LDS but somewhat understanding of and sympathetic toLDS history and doctrine).
You can probably find all or most of these in a good library, or try ';Googling'; them on the Internet --

Interesting, where do people get this stuff?
by the way, that's completely untrue, nothing like that happens.
If you want to know what happens, read the Old Testament understanding that we don't sacrifice animals anymore as that law was done away with when Christ came but the other ordinances spoken of by Moses are practiced.
wow.....haven't heard that one before.
There is nothing true about that. There's nothing in the temple that even resembles that.
No tables
no cutting
no blood
no shells
no laying down
I've heard some strange rumors, but that one is new to me.
The temple is a place where we go and primarily to make promises to keep the Lord's commandments.
Wow, um.... this is such a far out left field question that I don't know how to respond but say....
Where on earth did you dig up this kind of bologna? If you made it up maybe you should consider being a novel writer to exude some of that creativity before your head pops off!
You confused a story of the book of Abraham with what happened in the temple.
Abraham one day was a witness of such a practice of offering men to false gods.
The priests were about to kill him. An angel has rescued him. That all has nothing to do with what happened in temples. There people get their baptism, their marriage and their endowments. Nothing more.
Here the story of Abraham.

That's not true, at least in the mainstream Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. As for the more radical or separatist sects, I'm not sure but I've never heard of even them doing that either.
Do you HONESTLY believe that we would or could do something like that? It's just totally barbaric! NO! we don't do that!
HAHAHAHA wow
That is one of the craziest things I have heard.
That is absolutely not true. It never has been true.
Nope... I've been through the temple many times. Nothing like that happens.
No. That is not true.
Ex-Mormon here.. And that one is completely false.
I have been through the temple many times as has my husband and no this does not happen. how sad the rumors are becoming
thats false
Thats what the satanist use to do that hid behind th ecapitol and use to sacrifice animals and leave their dead bodies behind th eUT capital in the 80's. they couldn't get int he temple.
who knows? you could read things by ex-mormons I suppose:http://www.mormoncurtain.com/topic_templ鈥?/a>
Never heard that one, but it's hard to know what to believe about those freaks, hey...
