Is it true that they've used harmless viruses to plant genes into human cells who have genetic problems?

I鈥檝e heard that in the past they have found ways of giving people certain genes that were missing by placing a harmless virus into the human body that inserts a gene into enough cells of the body to have an affect.

true, but has not been perfected yet and there is a lot of controversy surrounding it (just like pretty much every other topic in biology). however, if gene therapy can be perfected, it holds great promise to treat many different genetic conditionsIs it true that they've used harmless viruses to plant genes into human cells who have genetic problems?
Yes this is true. they have been using in some countries to treat cancer patients as well.
They have beendoing this for years in other organisms, I am not sure if they have mastered it in people yet. Its called gene therapy.
